Dubai authorities will allocate 128 billion dirhams (34.8 billion USD) to build a new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, located in the southern part of the city. “The design of the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport has been approved and we have ordered the start of construction on the Dh128 billion building as part of the strategy developed by Dubai Aviation Corporation," said UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum .
According to him, the airport will become one of the largest in the world with a capacity of over 260 million passengers per year. The updated transport hub, which can accommodate 400 aircraft, is expected to be equipped with five parallel runways.
„It will be five times larger than the current Dubai International Airport. In the coming years, all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it”, the report noted.
